Still Searching

I am still searching for an author who can take over this genre. Phillip Margolin's "Burning Man" fell way short of expectation. The book was very trite and very predictable, with to many Grishamish charatcers. Margolin throws all the typical ingredents in the book stirs them up and you get the same results, just another blah lawyer novel.Since William Coughlin's death and John Grisham writing movie books, there is no writer in this genre to be the leader. Margolin is worth another read, but if your looking for something inspired and different this is not the book to be reading.

A fast read with a good plot

Phillip Margolin is becoming one of my favorite authors, his characters are developed well but not to the extent they are boring. He establishes good continuity and makes you feel that you are part of the story. If you enjoy legal thrillers this is the book for you.

Book review from da Germanchick

I chose the book "The Select" of F.Paul Wilson, who was not just an brilliant author he also was a skilled medic, used his knowledge in the novel. "The select" story is fiction, but the setting is in the Ingraham College of Medicine in Maryland. Quinn cleary , one of the main characters is 21 years old and lives in Connecticut she and her friend Matt Crawford have an invitation for the selection of the fifty news students who are the best to get a scholarship. Matt has a friend Tim Brown who is also invited. Quinn comes from a poor family and she really need to get this scholarship it's her biggest dream, and in the Ingraham you have to pay nothing. Tim and Matt have enough support from their parents, if they would fail, it wouldn't be so bad. After Quinn and Tim made it because Matt gave his place for Quinn, they felt something is going on in there, something not right. Some mysterious coincidences folowed which made Tim more thinking about. The Ingraham has some secrets no one outside could notice. They found out the studentrooms are asculate. When Tim knew too much about these serects, workers of the Ingraham, who are behind this secret tried to do him away with hiding him in station c, where the doctor, Dr.Alston makes skin experiments with innocent people, like Tim, who also find out something is wrong in the Ingraham before him. This secret contains manipulating the students thinking with electric rays in their beds. Quinn didn't know where he was and she started looking him. After a while she got to know by her own researches that he is still in the Ingraham. With many thrilling actions F.Paul Wilson starts to confuse the reader and you really have to pay attention what happens earlier to follow along. It has a good end, Quinn informed the police and Mat who helped braking the long dark secret of the Ongraham. Tim who ended in the hospital because he got in fight when he escaped, and Quinn ahieved wht they wanted: Bring the truth to the people. The title "The select" has many backgrounds with the novel which you will nly understand after reading the book. it strts with the select of the fifty students. I think this book is vry good and interetig. it difers from oyher crime novels and it never becomes borin. It is a really detailed book. Some informationare similar to ow experiences an some yu learn new about. When I firstread the topic I ouldn't imagine how filled with information this book is, it seems to be like a more normal crime problem, not that specil, but it is surpriing more than that and that made me reading and reaing because of all these changes and new actions. I would say you shouldn't read this novel under fourteen years because of some details and specific descriptions. I liked the book a lot and it was more interesting for me aftereading than before, just knowing a little bit of context what seems after finishing like no information.

I read this book quite awhile ago but never wrote a review for it. I can't recommend this one enough! I still remember it quite well even though I read it 2 years ago. This is one of the best medical thrillers I've ever read. I could not stop turning the pages to find out what would happen to these characters. You won't regret reading this one.

Not As Bad As Previously Reviewed
People should really keep in mind that this is a re-print of an earlier title by Ms. Hoag and as the saying goes practice makes perfect. Although it does not measure up to her later titles (Ashes to Ashes for example) it is still not a waste of time to pick this book up and read it.Yes, there is romance involved and personally I feel that it was an added benefit to the story. It by no means overshadowed the storyline of murder in a small town where the Amish live together with the English. This is really a multi-layer story about the main characters Dane and Elizabeth, the secondary characters, and changes that happen when the worst is seen in a town where everyone knows everyons business. Murder is unheard of in the last thirty-three years in Still Water. Now one of the leaders of this small community is found dead in his car. The reasons behind this murder are many and the finger points at several people and at no one. Elizabeth who just moved from Atlanta with her good looks, southern accent, troubled son, and has purchases the local news paper finds the body of the local money man and finds herself in the center of the investigatation. Dane the local sheriff is a ex-football player turned law officer. He is carrying around some old hurts from his past that color the way he looks at women like Elizabeth but he still can't avoid the attraction that he feels for her. To make matters worse she is a suspect to the murder or at the very least a unsuspected witness. Dane needs to solve the murder and at the same time protect his heart and the woman that threatnes his peacful existance. Don't pick up this book thinking that it is only a suspense, but at the same time don't avoid it because of the romance involved. At times it is slow going but it is still a well written story by an author that I feel has proven herself in later works.

Are We Reading the Same Book?
I'm truly surprised by all the negative comments, as this book, which I read years ago, remains my all-time favorite Tami Hoag book. I'm a very picky reader, and don't give praise easily, so I'm puzzled as to why so many readers absolutely hated this book. Was it rewritten prior to its re-release? Or are most readers looking for straight suspense (which is what Hoag writes now) and disappointed to discover that this book is a romantic suspense? I'll admit that I wasn't crazy about the hero. He was a little flat. But I have to disagree with some people's estimation of the heroine. Anybody who believes that Elizabeth Stuart is a typical romance heroine hasn't read much romance. As a matter of fact, I think the heroine is why I liked the book so much. She was flawed, in-your-face bold, and not afraid to call a spade a spade. She might have been beautiful, but she was far from pristine. Elizabeth was all raw edges and false bravado that covered an inner vulnerability, and she was what kept me reading. My two cents worth. Just wanted to point out that not everybody hated this book...some of us loved it.

Was this Mills & Boon?

This was truly appalling! All the characters were two dimensional and the plot was completely transparent. This is in fact a cheap romance masquerading as a thriller. Very disappointing and I would not recommend that anyone buy this.

10 year old Murder case reopened and New Killer Found
The novel LET ME CALL YOU SWEET HEART, by Mary Higgins Clark, is a thrill seeking, mind boggling murder mystery novel. Kerry McGrath and Geoff Dorso resurface a ten year old murder case of Suzanne Reardon that could cost Kerry her job. It was up to Kerry and Geoff to find the real killer and prove Skip Reardon's innocence. The novel is well thought out and planned including Clarks ability to capture the the true essence of a real murder case brought back to life. A weak point of her writing is the fact that some of the loose eands weren't completed. Such an example is the connection of the death the Dr. Charles Smith and did Frank Green become Governor. In all the novel is outstanding and would be great to be read by anyone who loves murder mysteries. The main characters are carefully drawn out and are realistic. Kerry McGrath is an assistant prosecutor that found out who the killer of Suzanne is when Kerry and her daughter's lives are threatened by the same man. Clark gives Kerry a wonderful characterization of a single mother who is fighting for a higher position in the law firm. Geoff Dorso helps Kerry solve the mystery by having Jason Arnott say who it actually is. Clark has made Geoff realistic by portraying him as a rugid cop that's out to find answers. He looked for the files on the Reardon case, and he digs up information on each of the suspects in the novel. These are the two main characters in the novel and they are well formed and developed by Mary Higgins Clark. The plot is well thought out, fluent and emphasizes many complications of real life. Kerry McGrath's daughter, Robin, had an accident due to her ex-husband's carelessness. When Kerry took Robin into the plastic surgeon's office of Dr. Charles Smith, she sees a familiar face but she's not sure where she's seen it. When she realizes that it is the face of Suzanne Reardon, who's been dead for 10 years, it peeks her interest in investigating into the closed case. Kerry, along with Geoff Dorso, put new pieces into the puzzle of who killed Suzanne, to be able to free Skip Reardon. Investigating this case puts Kerry's daughter's life in danger. When Kerry realizes who the real killer actually is, her own life becomes at risk. The story's suspence will have you on the edge of your seat. The surprise ending is so shoking that you hope it doesn't happen to you. The accusations of who done it left me pointing the finger at different people at different times. In all the plot was well formed and keeps you wanting more. In conclusion, the edge of your seat murder investigation will have you feeling like your the detective. The thought and planning is superbly done by Mary Higgins Clark. What' sbaffling is that Clark doesn't explain who killed Dr. Smith. The motvie is made clear but who did it isn't. In the end Kerry receives her judgeship but nothing is heard about Frank Green's attempt at becoming governor. In all the rest of the plot makes up for it. I would recommend the novel to murder mystery lovers.

Review of Let Me Call You Sweetheart
This book is called Let Me Call You Sweetheart. The author is Mary Higgins Clark. This book is a murder mystery about a lawyer who finds some information on an old murder case. The father of the victim is a plastic surgeon and is recreating his daughters face on other women. She researches the case that no one wants to open up. She gets herself into trouble with the murderer. I have read many Mary Higgins Clark books in the past. She is a great author, this book is no exception. It leads you through a maze of twists and turns and the conclusion amazes you. I really liked this book. There are surprises everywhere. For example here is a quote from the book. "With a roar, the car came rushing across the road, seemingly aimed right toward her. Just as she thought it was going to come up the curb and hit her, it swerved into a U-turn and then raced down the block. page 117" It's great how Clark lets you think you have figured out who the killer is and then you get new information. I think that I am like the Kerry McGrath the lawyer. If I came upon some information that was important. I wouldn't listen to all the people who want me to leave it alone. I really like Clark's style, a few other of her books I would recomend and, Loves Music Loves to Dance, All Around The Town, and On the Street Where You Live. They are all murder mysterys. If you get scared easily or have nightmares about things you read, I would not recommend this book. It is pretty scary. One of the most scary things about it is that her stories seem like something that could happen to you, her characters are like people you know. If you like to be frightened I would definitly reccomend this book and many of her other ones.
